Mayor

Durham Mayoral Candidates

Current Republican candidates for Durham mayor are Bree Davis and Jahnmaud Lane.

Bree L. Davis

Davis' Platform:

I am experienced in Global Public Health & PolicyLaw Enforcement (as a former Communications Officer), Social/Clinical Research and Community Organizing. With unrelenting determination, I will work to secure a better and stronger Durham with; Better Jobs & resources for Businesses, Better Health & Wellness for our families, and a Safer Durham for us all.

Jahnmaud M. Lane

Lane's Platform:

The three things I am focused on are lowering crime (particularly gangs and gangs violence), providing police raises, and increasing affordable housing.

  1. We have to stop the gang violence that has infected Durham. The drugs and profit from drugs fuel the gang violence on top of the craziness of gangs. We cannot address this as a mental health issue only and have no consequences for the actions of these people. We must empower the community to help get these people out of the community on which they prey. Police are the most overworked, unappreciated, and most valuable people in Durham. The police do not make enough money, nor are they given time off to recover from stressful work. We must pay our police enough that none need a second job.
  2. Affordable housing is a topic of many talks, but no one has a plan other than business as usual. Turn old homes and warehouses into houses, so people can get help, build their credit, and save for down payment on a home.
  3. More inspections for Durham Public housing, making sure tenants are taking care of the place in which they live. We need checks on cleanness and see people are not damaging the apartment. There are warehouses and other properties that the city could bid on to remodel into housing. We would also require the remolding companies to hire some people from Durham to help them learn a trade and get on their feet.
