Maria Jocys to be on ballot for Sheriff

The Durham County Board of Elections unanimously voted to dismiss Sheriff Clarence Birkhead's complaint against election challenger Maria Jocys.

Birkhead, in broad terms, contested that because some of the signatures required to get Jocys on the ballot could not be validated, the verified onces should also be disallowed. 

Jocys' lawyer, Michael Crowell, said the sheriff’s team hadn’t “provided anything that we didn’t already know about the rejections of the signatures and the number of valid signatures.” The Durham Board of Elections agreed.
